Home

I had one once, or so I tell myself

I lie sometimes like that

Now I keep on moving’ on

Don’t know where I am – or who I am

I have no idea where I’m going

Sometimes I forget and think I do

Visualize a positive future, set goals, live on purpose

All crap

It’s all completely out of my control, but it’s not out of control

I aspire to having no idea at all

To get really good at being lost – completely lost, all the time

When I’m lost I’m really free

I have no God and want one less

God makes the rest of life so small

Life is bigger than that – and bigger than God

I swim in Life – ‘til I’m not there at all

And any little home is just a box

I want so much more than that

Jubilee! 101...A “Cliff Notes” Version of Pathways - Do you have questions about Jubilee!? Then attend Jubilee! 101— a Q & A session about our community.  Bring your questions for a “Cliff Notes” event on Jubilee!’s history & structure, plus a brief overview of Creation Centered Spirituality, Teams and how to get more involved. Join us on Sunday, January 25 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. A light lunch will be available for a charge of $5 per person. Sign up at the Welcome Table in our Entry Area.

Auditions for the Next Jubilee Players' Production on January 25 & 26 - Murder at the Café Noir by David Landau is a delightful comedy!  You put a want-to-be Bogart-type investigator, a curvatious woman, a French Madame, a voodoo priestess, a shyster British lawyer, a black marketer and a femme fatale into one setting and humor abounds. There are also three roles traditionally played by one actor. It takes place in a spot called Casabranda on the Isle of Mustique.

There is music, wandering characters and maybe some finger food (maybe).  Plenty of opportunity to get involved!!!  If you would like to try out for a part, auditions will be held at Jubilee! on Sunday and Monday, January 25th and 26th from 7 to 9pm.  For more information, contact Ralph Redpath.

Room In the Inn Coming in February...Sign Up Now - Our next rotation for Room in the Inn is coming February 22nd through the 29th.   St Lawrence will be providing the food, but we will continue to  serve as

Overnight Innkeepers and combination Evening Host/Driver.  Can you help with either of these tasks for one night?  Sign-up begins on Sunday, February 8th in the Hospitality Room.  If you have any questions or are in a position to assist, please call Carol Greenspan.

The Spiritual Journey Team is pleased to present…

Balancing a Divine Partnership of Stillness and Exhilaration - This movement workshop is offered by Dorisse and BreathDance ~ Wellness Through Breathing on Thursday, January 29 from 7 to 9 pm at Jubilee! for a donation of $10-20. Prior to movement of physical form, there is Stillness, where safety reigns, where Spirit lives. Wait, watch, listen, BREATHE into the Source.   Accept your Breath as tool and guide to seek first and find the silence within; then loosen yourself into gentle primal movement.  Allow yourself to spiral into the ecstasy of motion and return to the spaces in between. Practice this powerful metaphor and begin to use it immediately in your daily life as you cultivate the ability to use breath to return to your power center and stay grounded, when external circumstances and distractions threaten to throw you off balance.  Within the firm container of self lives the soft sweet swirl of the senses. Get to know them both, and where they meet.  Merge with the divinity of yourself.  For more information, contact Dorisse at 828-450-5999.

Circles of Care & Team Shayla Winter Gathering - Circles of Care and Team Shayla will have their Pre-Superbowl Winter gathering on Sunday, February 1, from 3 to 5 pm, downstairs at Jubilee!  Members of all four teams and Team Shayla are urged to bring your best potluck dish or Superbowl snack, beverages, and ideas for 2009.  Anyone who wishes to join Circles of Care or Team Shayla is invited to join us!

And be sure to save the following dates...Sunday, February 15th is Shayla's 4th birthday and Team Shayla and Circles of Care will be sponsoring a “We Love Shayla” mini-benefit during both celebrations.  If you're interested in helping make cookies or arrange flowers, or offer general assistance in any way, contact Marlisa at marlisa518@aol.com.   And Sunday, March 15, is the big Jubilee!  SHAYLA benefit.  The afternoon and evening will be full of music, fun, and wonderful community.

Positive Discipline Courses at Jubilee! - The Jubilee! Nurture Program is sponsoring a new series of parenting classes to begin the new year.  Genevieve Hanger Fortuna (see www.injoyparenting.com) will be leading two Positive Discipline Courses… one designed especially for parents of younger school-age children and the other appropriate for parents of teens.  Each course involves six two-hour sessions which are full of lively discussion, helpful materials, and, of course, lots of laughter.

Based on the best-selling book, Positive Discipline, by Jane Nelsen, this program enables parents to teach their children important life skills, in a manner that is respectful to both the parents and the children.  It offers deep wisdom and practical guidance to help raise children and teens to be responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their community.  The cost is $80 per Jubilant family and includes a book and handouts.  Scholarships are available.  Here are the details...

Positive Discipline for Parents of Children: 9—11 am on Mondays, February 2—March 9

Positive Discipline for Parents of Teens… 7 to 9 pm on February 4—March 11,

To participate, contact Genevieve at injoyparenting@hotmail.com.

Join the Home Show - Twenty-four daring dancers in collaboration with choreographer Barrie Barton have been examining the Via Creativa theme of There’s No Place Like Home. The examination and exploration produced a movement theater dance to be performed in concurrence with another dance, eclectic music and visionary poetry at Diana Wortham Theater, April 17 and 18.

The Dancers invite you to participate in our show and your part is easy. Bring a

picture or photo of any and all places you call home. Wide and expansive interpretation of home is welcome. Add your photograph to the Community Home Collage in the Hospitality Room. (photos can’t be returned consider making a copy instead of the original)

You have the entire month of February to participate and we hope many will join in.

In April, the collage will be on display in the Lobby of Diana Wortham Theater.

The B.E.A.R. Compassion Needed

The following persons need your compassion.  Maybe prayers, phone calls, or ?  Use your imagination!

 * Jubilant David Koll had rotator cuff surgery on January 15th. Please offer prayers for a successful surgery, best outcome, and release from pain.

* Julie Elingburg Gifford asks for prayers for her parents, Jubilants Dolly and Ray Elingburg. Dolly has been dealing with cancer since April, 2006, and in October 2008 the cancer moved into her neurological system. She has been housebound since early October, and Ray is always by her side, supporting her, "often ignoring his own health so that he can do for her. Please lift them up with prayer so that her healing and Dad's strength will continue."

* Jubilant Sharon Price broke her hip in late November during a trip back to Connecticut to sell her house there. The break required a "hemi" hip replacement. She is recovering there and hopes to return by late April. Sharon is determined to recover to the fullest extent possible. Sharon says, “Please keep me in your prayers."

 * Jubilant Trice Ward writes, “I got the results of my CT and PET scans.  They show that the cancer has already come back.  So once again I begin chemo again.  The doctors are trying to keep it from taking over.  I, on the other hand, am trying to find alternatives to chemo and ask for any input from anyone who's had a personal experience with something that worked for them and prayers.  LOTS of prayers!”

Thanks

We would like to thank Jubilant Joyell Smith for designing the cover for our Via Creativa bulletin.  Joyell’s work  allowed George Rogers, our resident graphic artist, to take a break.

Children by Brian Andreas

“Why is the world so confusing? he said & I said it's only confusing if you believe it has to make sense & he looked at me & shook his head. I can't believe they let just anyone have children, he said.”

“If I get born again, my son said, do they give me different parents? & I said no & he shook his head & said they didn't use their brains on that one, did they?”

“I think they're going to be great grown-ups, she said, because they're really awful children.”

“This is a special balancing trick that requires a small child to stay completely still (so it's still only theoretical)”
