Meets the third Monday of each month at 5:45 pm for a meal and meeting
The Jubilee! Board consists of Jubilant's who are elected by our community for three-year terms.
The Board serves the Jubilee! community by:
- holding the vision of the Jubilee! community and upholding its values,
- listening to the wants and needs of the community as a whole,
- reaching a consensus when there are differences about how we should proceed,
- responding to the community’s wishes in a manner that is respectful and congruent with Jubilee’s values,
- effectively communicating our decisions back to the community,
- honoring this process, giving it the opportunity to work, enjoying our time together and treating one another with compassion and respect,
- maintaining a connection with every Jubilee! team,
- being fully accountable for all we do, including our fiscal responsibilities and
- keeping the main thing the main thing.

I moved to Asheville in September, 1988. I am blessed with a beautiful 28 year old daughter, Nora, who is a psych nurse at Asheville’s VA Hospital and a handsome 18 year old son, Andy, who many of you know as a very active participant in the 9:45 celebration.
I began attending Jubilee! celebrations almost two years ago in the summer of 2005. I completed Pathways to Membership in spring of 2006. Since then, I have been a member of the Community Life Team and schedule the 9:45 Greeters. I also make sure that I support Room in the Inn each time it is sponsored by Jubilee!
I had “thought about” Jubilee! off and on for several years, but didn’t know that much about it. I grew up as one of ten children in an Irish Catholic family. I refer to myself as “in recovery” from my prior experience with formalized religion. Many of my friends had been pestering me to try Jubilee! but the final push came from my son, Andy. He saw Jimmy Stewart going to church every Sunday in the movie, Shenandoah, and decided this was something that we should also do. Even though I explained that we wouldn’t go to town on a buckboard and that “church” was in a school (Jubilee! Celebrations were at Jones Elementary at this time due to renovations), Andy insisted that we go. I was easily persuaded because I was also looking for something – I wanted to feel that I really belonged, that my son belonged, and that we were part of a community that valued and respected all individuals.
When I think about the meaning of “community,” I am reminded of the 4-H meetings/potluck dinners that I went to as a kid growing up in Michigan dairy farm country. The 4-H meetings were about exploring talents and learning new skills (Head), making friends (Heart), and contributing to the community (Hands). The fourth “H” stood for “Health.” While we didn’t specifically focus on health, it certainly was a by-product of the other Hs.
I have found that Jubilee! is not that different from the 4-H of my youth. My son and I have become part of a community that is rich with fellowship and fun, opportunities to grow spiritually and any which way, and resources to give back to the larger community in which we live. I have found that Jubilee! is not so much about “going to church” as it is sharing the gifts of friendship, laughter, music, dance, intelligence, thoughtfulness, generosity, and creativity as we consider life’s natural and supernatural lessons. And, it’s still all about head, heart, hands, and health |

I
moved to Asheville in 1983 from too many previous locations
to list. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago my father
was my strong spiritual teacher. His hobby was studying
as many different religions as he could cram into one
life time. He managed to instill in my two older brothers
and me that all religion has a common thread that weaves
them together. Each person may be called to a different
thread but there is indeed a common element. We were
raised with the diversity of many faiths, and when I
attended the first service at Jubilee! in August of
1989, I felt that sense of joy my father had given me:
inclusiveness. I have been involved with the Jubilee!
Community ever since, serving on numerous teams and
as co-leader of the outreach team with my husband, Paul
Muller, and Becky Polonsky for the past 10 years. Being
on the Jubilee! Board as a “stand in” has
taught me many important lessons...The “Main Thing”
for me is that Howard’s message reaches our community;
and then our community puts those words into practice,
not only in Asheville but all over the world. The word
is love.

I am a native North Carolinian who went off wandering – out west to San Francisco for 11 years – and returned in 2003. If there is a place that could replace the openness, inclusivity, and, yes, kookiness of San Francisco, it would be the Jubilee! community in Asheville. I have been a spiritual seeker since early college and this passion has led me to explore and fall in love with many aspects of several religious traditions. I believe that each tradition is a well that taps into the one underground river that is the source of all. Jubilee! is a place where each of these traditions is welcomed.
I chose to serve on the Jubilee board because I love this place, the community, and the service that it provides to so many people, and I wanted to help further each of these things in whatever ever way I can. I bring my background of having created and chaired a non-profit board for several years as well as my current work as a leadership and career coach, speaker and consultant

am honored to serve on the Jubilee! Board. I grew up in upstate New York with
Greek American Parents. After college, I went into the construction trades where
I have worked (off and on) for over thirty years. I have also owned my own
natural foods store in Dallas, TX and worked for a national chain in Santa Fe,
NM. I even managed a tortilla manufacturing company for four and a half years!
When I first came to Asheville in 2001, I would have been the last one to see myself in a “brick and mortar” church.” My spirit path for the previous twenty years had been very esoteric—drawing on eastern philosophy, Native American, South American, and metaphysical modalities. I had an attitude about “organized religion.” Having grown up in the Greek Orthodox Church, I knew what that path had to offer. But there is little that is common about Jubilee! I feel genuinely cared for and blessed to be a part of it all. I hope to serve with dignity, distinction, and commitment to the highest and best good for the community. |

I
grew up just outside Asheville in Leicester, NC. My
family attended a Methodist church, but I joined a Baptist
church when I was sixteen. While I have fond memories
of my early church experiences, the underlying message
of being basically sinful and imperfect was the “truth”
I took with me into adulthood. It wasn’t until
my husband, Ralph Redpath, and I began attending Jubilee!
over ten years ago that I came to value myself as a
holy being and began to operate from a basis of love
and acceptance rather than guilt and shame. I am honored
to be nominated to the Jubilee! Board and am thankful
for the opportunity to give to the Community that has
been such a blessing to me personally. An area of interest
for me is the Nurture program, as our daughter, Tara,
is now nine years old. I am also interested in the Outreach
program as I wholeheartedly believe that Jubilee!’s
commitment to giving should always be “the main
thing.”
In addition to being a wife and
mother, I have worked as a pediatric speech-language
pathologist for over 15 years. I have been the co-leader
of the Asheville chapter of Families with Children from
China—a group dedicated to honoring and celebrating
the birth culture of our children, as well as providing
a support network for adoptive families. Most spare
moments are spent curled up with a good book and faithful
dog, Chance, or mischievous kitten, Arabella. |

My
family and I moved to Asheville in 1990 seeking a wonderful
place to raise our two children – and we certainly
found it! After many years of attending a traditional
Methodist Church while the children were growing up,
we suddenly found ourselves in a “spiritual rut.”
In 2002, a friend suggested that we try Jubilee! and
from the first Sunday we walked through the doors, Tom
and I knew that we had found our place! I have been
involved with the Outreach Team for four years and regularly
participate with Room in The Inn. I love the vibrant
and diverse celebrations, the energy exuded by Jubilants
and the outreach to the community. Being part of the
Outreach Team has confirmed to me that Jubilants coming
together by giving time, money and gifts can have a
tremendous impact on the lives of so many people and
organizations. The ripple effect is amazing.
Professionally,
I am a relationship manager with a community bank serving
the Hendersonville/Fletcher area. Tom and I live in
Arden; our daughter, Katie, works with the Federation
of American Scientists in Washington, DC, and, our son,
Joey is spending the summer involved with an HIV/AIDS
education program in Honduras. I am honored to serve
on the Board and contribute to the path that Jubilee!
will follow.

I
was not going to church or to volunteer for anything for
a year when my husband and I moved to Asheville in December
2004. Then I walked into the circle of my first Jubilee!
service in May 2005 and knew I found a good thing. All
sorts of people got up and shared things. I don’t
remember what they were, but I remember what I felt. Accepted.
It didn’t have to be me up there because I knew
it could be and I would be accepted. The expressive, introverted,
hyper, shy, loving, stand-offish, annoyed, open-hearted
and more parts of me are all okay here at Jubilee. From
that acceptance I have opened to… join the Jubilee!
Singers, dance in Barrie Barton’s Community Dance
Projects, be very enthusiastic and expressive in the middle
of some Sunday services, share my own song on a Sunday
and even lead a Sunday service with lots of mistakes.
Accepted.
I am an Ordained Interfaith Minister and Intuitive
Spiritual Consultant. I facilitate a weekly A Course
In Miracles discussion group in my home. I have clients
in my home and over the phone weekly and in Cashiers,
NC, monthly. I am again assisting Barrie’s current
Community Dance Project. And I’m still trying
to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. My life
is good and I want to support the Jubilee! Community
with all I have to offer.

I
came to Jubilee six years ago with my fiancé,
Tracy, to check out Howard as a possible officiant for
our wedding. Well, here we are, married, now a family
and involved in the wonderful spirit of Jubilee! Soon
after attending Pathways we joined the Arts Team, a
fun bunch providing remarkable opportunities for creative
expression. Jubilee is a refreshing environment for
us to nurture our spiritual quests after having experienced
disillusionment with our more traditional church backgrounds.
I bring to Jubilee! twenty-five years
of experience as an administrator, supervisor and a
therapist for adults, teens and families. In an effort
to follow my muse and live more creatively, I changed
careers and am now a photographer. This allows me to
work at home and to be present with my daughter while
she is young. Thriving in our culture is more than challenging.
As a parent of a three year old I am motivated by questions
such as: how can we as parents rear an aware, spiritually
healthy and socially responsible child? And, how can
the Jubilee! Community nurture the spiritual lives of
its children and families? We have a unique opportunity
at Jubilee! to provide an environment in which our children
and their families can experience healthy spiritual
growth. I’m grateful to be able to contribute
to this development through my role as a Jubilee! Board
member. |

Jubilee!
has been my community of choice since I moved here ten
years ago from Greensboro. In fact, I used to visit
Asheville long before I moved here, so I feel very much
at home in the mountains. I am a native Floridian transplant,
having spent the first eighteen years of my life there,
but my last forty years here in North Carolina. As a
semi-retired person, I teach electronics technology
at A-B Tech, and have been teaching in community colleges
for over thirty years. It is my passion. Woven into
my teaching schedule is volunteer time at Mission Hospital,
often with kids with cancer and long term illnesses.
Singing and music of all kinds are also a part of my
life, and I greatly enjoy the many opportunities for
singing at Jubilee! I love travel and have been fortunate
to have experienced sacred sites in Europe, South America,
and the American Southwest—all great adventures.
My intention is to lead international trips for small
groups. Photography is also a keen interest of mine,
as is Sacred Geometry.
I am blessed to be a part of the Jubilee
Community where there is an abundance of compassion,
acceptance, genuine joy, and heart-felt laughter. After
all, life is too short to not to be immersed in this
wonderful community. |

I
have been a member of Jubilee! for eight years and participate
in the Nurture Program Parent Team, the North Circle
of Care, and the former ‘28801’ Neighborhood
Team. My husband and I, Greg Goodman, are the proud
parents of two sons, ages 10 and 13, and manage our
own consulting practice specializing in geographic information.
I have degrees in Landscape Architecture and worked
as a coastal landscape ecologist at Louisiana State
University (LSU) before establishing and directing the
Louisiana Geographic Information Center at LSU. I was
raised in Northern Virginia (before it was a mall) and
developed my love of the mountains while spending summers
with family in West Virginia and attending college in
Blacksburg, VA.

When Don Fortuna asked me for a short bio, I thought, “What would my ‘bio’ be?”I have been a teacher of young children for 28 years, and that mission continues. For the past 23 of those years I have taught at Carolina Day School, and I currently teach fourth grade there.Who I am, though, is more about what I believe than about when and where I was born or some special personal history. What I believe is this:I believe that the Divine in this world resides in us mere humans; believe this means I have a responsibility to act upon that belief; I believe the Divine is all about love, peace, and acceptance, and not at all about rejection and condemnation;I believe that the love, peace, and acceptance of the Divine extends to all people of the earth, all creatures of the earth, and the Earth herself. My aspiration in life is to follow these beliefs as nearly as I can, and to especially touch children as the person I aspire to be.
My wife, Jill Wilson, and I first came to Jubilee! in the summer of 1993.We were amazed that there was a church that truly embraced anyone who walked in the door… unconditionally;a community that truly made it a mission to reach out to those in need anywhere… unconditionally; community that existed, not to insist upon some restrictive creed, but to reach out with love and respect for all.Since Jill’s sudden death 21 months ago, the people at Jubilee! have been an anchor for me from the very first day. That I can serve the community now in some way will be a special gift to me |
