This group provides a compassionate ear for people who need someone to talk to during moments of frustration and other times that can test us all. In times of grief and confusion, we all need someone to whom we can turn, someone who will listen and who will care. We all have within us the answers to the questions which trouble us and we have the wisdom to create our own best life. The Care & Compassion Ministries is there to help when those answers, that wisdom seem elusive.

The mission of the Compassion Ministry is to provide support to members of our community who are experiencing short- or long-term health problems, medical or other emergencies; who live in nursing homes or extended care facilities or who need bereavement support. The Compassion Ministry can assist with such needs as providing meals, basic housekeeping, child care, shopping and errands, transportation to and from doctors' appointments, respite care and compassionate companionship. All Jubilant's are invited to serve in this ministry by making themselves available in times of need.

Who We Are

Bill Bailey…

As a Jubilant and a retired United Methodist pastor, I am pleased to be a volunteer on this new pastoral care and counseling ministry.  My role on the team is to be a compassionate ear for people who would like to talk with someone during moments of frustration or perhaps for those times when a person reaches their “wits-end.”  As needed, I will be a support for those who are grieving. I will also be available for people who have concerns about their spiritual identity as it relates to their Jubilee! experience.  For example, there are people who come from other religious traditions who would like to talk with someone about how Jubilee! “fits in” with their past experiences. For others, Jubilee! can generate a quest for a deeper understanding and appreciation of their own spiritual journey.  For whatever reasons, if someone would like to talk about faith issues, I am available.

Judy Bennett…

I have been in love with and attending Jubilee for two years - and still get moved to tears almost every Sunday! Working on the Spiritual Journey Team, the Room in the Inn and several other on-going small groups has brought me great joy.  I cherish the connections we have here at Jubilee!  I moved to these beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains from hot, humid Houston, Texas, where I lived for 36 years.  I wake up in gratitude each morning for this sacred place in which we live!  While in Houston, I worked in the field of psychotherapy for 12 years, both in private practice and as the Clinical Director of a large non-profit organization.  To fully immerse myself in these mountains, I took a sabbatical when I arrived here and worked on top of Balsam Mountain in a 100 year-old Inn and had an antique booth - both secret dreams of mine.  As I have restarted my practice here in Asheville, it is a dream come true to be doing part-time counseling for Jubilee! -  the place I love.

As a woman in my mid-fifties who, after raising her family, decided to journey across the country and start anew, I relish journeying with people as they wrestle with the questions and decisions in their lives.  I believe that we have within us the answers to our questions and the wisdom to create our own best life.  However, there are times when our "knowing" can get muddled for any number of reasons.  It is at these times that I believe a counseling relationship can be of help.  I view this relationship as a container, a safe place where one can explore feelings and thoughts, ask courageous questions and move toward change and transformation.  Being part of providing such a container for Jubilee! is an honor and deep privilege.
