Here is some writing from our trip.
July 20th, 2010
Today was our first day in D.C. We did a lot sightseeing and walking. Unfortunately, all that walking involved blisters and tired legs. But, all and all, we were all very happy about today.
The day started with all of us waking up on the train, where we had spent the previous night. It was really cramped on the train, so we couldn’t wait to get off. After a good breakfast, we were on our way to the church where we will spend the next few nights.
After we got lunch at the near by deli, we set off to eat our lunch at The National Mall, which is not like a shopping mall. During lunch, we found out we were going to do a scavenger hunt.
Scavenger Hunt:
1: Find and ride the merry-go-round.
2: Stroll thru some sculptures, find your favorite one, and draw a picture of it. (Mine was just a bunch of squares. Because I have 0 artistic ability.)
3: Go to the museum your group was specifically meant to go to. (The group that I was in went to the Natural History Museum.)
4: At that museum, we had to get a picture with biggest thing in that museum.
5; we also took pictures with the smallest thing.
6. Buy and eat a tasty snack. But, it had to be one that we couldn’t get in Asheville.
7: Take a picture of the Castile
8: Take a picture of us picking up the Washington Monument.
9: Take a picture of Obama’s house.
10: Take water from the Reflecting Pool. Use it to color a map with watercolors.
11: Find our first, middle, or last name on the Vietnam wall.
After we finished our scavenger hunts, we all took the Metro home, made dinner, played games for a while, and then went to bed.
