Welcome New Board Members
…Our new members are Laurie Berry Clifford, Paul Howey, Claudia Sherry and Dave Trout
In the month of June, the Jubilee! Board is saying goodbye to Lynn Brailsford, Sandy Jones and Sue Martin who have completed their terms. And, we are saying hello to four new persons who are beginning their terms beginning July 1st. The four new members are Laurie Berry Clifford, Paul Howey, Dave Trout and Claudia Sherry. These four individuals are all members of the Community who support Jubilee! with their time and their dollars. Each brings unique gifts to share and in coming weeks you can read about them. In the May 26th edition we shared information about Laurie. In this edition we are introducing Paul Howey and Dave Trout. We’ll hear about Claudia in the next edition.
Paul Howey— I have been involved at Jubilee! since moving to the Asheville area from Phoenix, Arizona, in the fall of 2004. I am an author, feature writer, editor, and photographer, and was for ten years, the editor of The Laurel of Asheville magazine. When that gig ended last summer, I founded Fur Kidz Sake, a coalition of nationally certified pet therapy teams that are providing canine‐assisted therapy for kids and adults in a variety of settings throughout the region. In an earlier “incarnation,” I gained experience in public speaking, as a fund raising consultant, national sales manager, and as an executive director of a statewide mental health nonprofit organization. Also, as a children’s book author, I spoke to thousands of elementary students in NC, AZ, and CA.
When we asked Paul why he would enjoy serving on the Board, he responded, “I have received so much from Jubilee! over the years. I see this opportunity to be on the Board as at least one small way in which I can pay it back—and, hopefully, forward. I know from watching my wife Trish when she served on the board a few years ago that this is a great chance to help our community, while at the same time having a fun time doing so.”
David Trout—I love Jubilee! as it helps me give back to a community which enriches my heart ‐ also I have met some new, great friends in the community. As a long time Jubilee! member of 20+ years and former board member, I believe that I may bring perspective to the group. Frankly, post the election of this past fall I decided to look for a way to become more involved in organizations projecting the values I share. When asked about the skills he brings to the Board, David responded, “As a successful biz owner—a bottom line orientation. And as a sales guy ‐ I know how to listen carefully to other people. Finally, to quote Wavy Gravy ” if you don’t have a sense of humor ‐ it’s just not funny.”
In addition to serving on the Jubilee! Board some years ago, he is a former professional chef and restaurateur. As such, “he really knows how to cook!” Using those skills, David continues to provide meals for the Room in the Inn program and has cooked entire Sedar Meals for the Jubilee! Community and others.
Celebrating the Life of Dylan Goodman
On Sunday, June 11th, Howard will lead a service remembering the life of Dylan Goodman, son of Lynda Wayne and Greg Goodman and the brother of Max Goodman, at the NC Arboretum at 3 pm. A “walk in the woods” for family and friends will precede the Celebration starting a 1:30 pm. Please join us at the Education Center where we will begin and end our walk. Lynda says, “Dylan was at his best while at New Summit Academy (NSA) in Costa Rica. The school helped him to realize his ability to be a great student, athlete, friend, community member, and leader. Please consider making a gift to the school in Dylan’s memory.”
