Latin Neighbor Team (L.N.T.) Project
The Latin Neighbor Team expands Jubilee! outreach to include immigrants. You can give families in our area a hand up and get chores around the house done efficiently. Hire an immigrant and experience a job well done for a reasonable hourly rate. With LNT assistance, you can: line up an excellent worker to power wash your deck, do garden work, clean house, clear snow, keep the elderly company, paint, build shelving in your garage, get what you need done! To arrange for reliable workers, contact Marian Patten, LNT, 828-252-5826. A Spanish-speaking member of LNT comes with the worker to the job interview to translate critical details about the work, the schedule, and pay. Workers understand English related to work to be accomplished. You get a job well done and the worker supports a family. The Jubilee! Latin Neighbors Team meets the first Wednesday of the month. Contact Marian Patten at [email protected] or 828-252-5826 for meeting location or sign up on the clipboard for L.N.T. in Hospitality room.
Kickstart Your Year …Thursday, March 3rd at 7 pm
The purpose of the Kickstarter workshop, led by Jubilant Pat Kelly, is to learn how to tap into our intuition to prepare and set goals for the year ahead. The workshop will draw on the contemporary research of psychologist Brené Brown– whose famous TED talks on vulnerability and shame have had more than 27M views – and the work of anthropologist Angeles Arrien who gathered wisdom from a variety of indigenous cultures and distilling it into four paths of wise, effective action—showing up, paying attention, telling the truth and being unattached to the outcome. These practices are called the Four Fold Way – the archetypal paths of the warrior, healer, visionary and teacher. The opportunity to embody these archetypes arises in every situation in our lives. We will use research, personal experience and the New Zealand Maori portrait drawing tradition for accessing the unconscious leadership within each of us. A donation of $10 per person is asked, but no one will be turned away. For more information, email Pat Kelly at [email protected] This workshop is sponsored by the Spiritual Journey Team.
Room in the Inn Starts March 6th
Our first rotation of the Room in the Inn Program for 2016 begins early next month. We are now signing folks up in the Hospitality Room on Sunday mornings. If you just can’t wait to get your name on the list, give Carol Greenspan a call at 298-6066. As usual, we need cooks, drivers, evening hosts and overnight innkeepers. The largest challenge for these women is the lack of a loving support system. Let’s do our part to help to provide the support that is so needed.
Take a Hike!
The Jubilee! Earth Team’s next hike will be Saturday March 5th to the summit of Looking Glass Mountain. This is a 3 mile climb which comes out on a granite overlook of the Pisgah National Forest and then, of course, a 3 mile hike back! Pack a lunch, water, and dress in layers. If you would like to go, please meet in Earth Fare at Westgate parking lot (south east corner) at 9 am. We will depart at 9:15 am and return about 3pm. It is possible that on our way home we might stop at Looking Glass Falls and Sierra Nevada Brewery!
In Plain Sight…
is a photo journal of homelessness and street life in Asheville. The objective is to bring members of the community together to discuss potential solutions to the problems that the city and homeless people face. Please join us on Friday, March 4th, from 5 to 8 pm at Jubilee! for an opportunity to see the display and talk. This event is sponsored by the Jubilee! Arts Team.
As many of you know, our wonderful musical maestro, Lynn Rosser, has been going through big-time-hard-times with her son, Jarom’s major heart issues. It has now become apparent to Lynn that with all of her responsibilities for her son’s health, she cannot continue as the Jubilee! Singers Director. This is a sad moment for Jubilee! because Lynn has been with us for 17 years and has added immeasurably to the joy and wonder in our celebrations. She has found a fine interim director, Daric Smith, who has been singing with the Singers this year and has studied at Westminster Choir College. We will offer a blessing for Lynn on her last Sunday, March 6.
